Have some knowledge of the staining of wood and colouring of tortoise shell and horn.

| Description of the principal tasks |

Prepare the veneers according to their characteristics and the work to be done. |

Prepare the wood : planing and sawing of the wood in order to obtain squared pieces |

Cutting by hand, using a circular saw, a veneer clipper, a laser |

Precise cutting of the veneer using the specialist tools : sharp hobbyist knife, sawhorse, jigsaw or laser. |

Make shadows by darkening the wood : using acid or hot sand |

Inlaying of the cut-out pieces. Composing the design on the back of the wood. |

Veneering: technique which consists of applying sheets of high quality wood to an item made of ordinary wood. This is a purely decorative exercise. |
